    AMERICA � (UC:CSU:C-ID ARTH 140) 3 UNITS (formerly ART 109 The Arts of Africa, Oceania and Ancient America) Prerequisite: None | Advisory: ENGL C1000 | Lecture: 3 hours This introductory survey course follows the development of the visual arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas (with an emphasis on the period before European contact). Art is dis- cussed in its historical and cultural context. Deconstruction of the historiography of these peoples, and critical analysis of methods of display used in exhibiting the visual culture pro- duced, is central to this course.
