The course will analyze the Constitution of the United States of America, political philosophies, political institutions, amendments and interpretations, the rights and obligations of citizens, the role of major ethnic and social groups, race, gender, and the continuity of the American experience, geography, federal, state, and local governments. Integrated learning strands include an overview of West African societies; Africans in colonial America; The "Peculiar Institution", Abolition, the Civil War, Westward Expansion, Emancipation, and Reconstruction.
