This course explores the early history of microbiology, microbial classification, morphology, physiology, genetics, and ecology. Other topics include controlling microbial populations, microbial pathogenicity, immunology, and microbiological technology and applications in modern society. Laboratory techniques emphasize fundamental microbiological techniques, concepts, and applications, including current molecular diagnostic methods in microbial genetics and immunology. This course includes more lab hours than Microbiology 20, and it is recommended for students who need a 5-unit course with 6 hours of lab per week.
