- statistics. Completion of intermediate algebra or the equivalent. Students learn to prepare Federal and California income tax returns for individuals. Topics include overview, gross income, exemptions, deductions, tax credits, self-employment tax returns, and rental property transactions. This course can be utilized to meet part of the basic qualification for registering as a tax preparer and the continuing education requirement of the California Tax Preparer Act.
