Transfers ToNot transferableDescriptionThis course is the study of the relationship between developmental, environmental, and social-emotional variables and the young child's challenging and/or extreme behaviors. Strategies, for use by the early childhood teacher or parent, which support the child's development of social competence, self-control and self-image will be covered. Students will explore the relationship between socialization and trauma, factors that affect the child's individual responses to trauma, and the role of families in supporting children's overall well-being. Research on adverse childhood experiences (ACES) will be introduced. An additional three to five hours of child observation, outside of regular class hours, is required for this course.
