Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course is a continuation of NURS 2 and NURS 5, focusing on medical/surgical conditions of the intermediate acute patient. It builds on medical/surgical nursing theory, focused care of the young, middle, and older adult population, communication, collaboration, caring, and critical thinking/clinical reasoning necessary for safe, patient-centered nursing care. Focuses on developmental and cultural diversity of adult patients experiencing intermediate acuity medical/surgical conditions. Incorporates evidence-based practice, quality improvement, professional standards, and legal and ethical responsibilities of the professional nurse as applied in the acute care setting. Application of knowledge and skills occurs in a variety of clinical settings. This course includes integrated medical/surgical and geriatric concepts with 25 hours of instruction focused on general medical/surgical populations and 26 hours of instruction focused on geriatric populations. This is a web-enhanced course; computer and internet access are required. Students must complete all course hours and assignments as required. Students must receive 75% on their final as well as in the course to remain in the nursing program. NURS 9 is offered as a concurrent course with NURS 10, NURS 11, and NURS 12 during the third semester of the program. A course grade of D or below will result in failure in all concurrent courses.
