Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course builds on the concepts of previous nursing courses with emphasis on utilizing the nursing process in caring for maternity, newborn, and pediatric health. Students will explore the concepts of health promotion, disease prevention, and alterations in health related to maternal child health. Emphasis is on holistic care of childbearing families. Management and planning of the nursing process will include concepts from a variety of culturally diverse settings to include nursing in the community. This course includes integrated maternal child concepts with 17 hours of instruction on obstetric populations and 17 hours of instruction on pediatric populations. This is a web-enhanced course; computer and internet access are required. Students must complete all course hours and assignments as required. Students must receive 75% on their final as well as in the course to remain in the nursing program. NURS 6 is offered as a concurrent course with NURS 5, NURS 7, and NURS 8 during the second semester of the program. A course grade of D or below will result in failure in all concurrent courses.
