The student focuses on providing safe, quality, patient-centered care to young, middle, and older adult patients experiencing pathophysiological alterations requiring nursing interventions. Learning experiences integrate all prerequisite courses, pharmacologic concepts, physical assessment skills, and data analysis. Cultural, legal, and ethical aspects of care are reinforced throughout. Clinical learning experiences are provided to assist the student in meeting course objectives. Community resources are utilized to enhance the learning of course concepts. This course includes integrated medical/surgical concepts with 102 clinical hours spent implementing a variety of nursing skills providing hands on care of geriatric populations, and 51 hours providing direct patient care for medical/surgical patients. Uniform and lab fees of $500 will be collected at registration. The State of California requires that this course maintain an instructor-to-student ratio of 1/10. This is a web-enhanced course; computer and internet access are required. Students must complete all course hours and assignments as required. Students must receive 75% on their final as well as in the course to remain in the nursing program. NURS 3 is offered as a concurrent course with NURS 1, NURS 2, and NURS 4 during the first semester of the program. A course grade of D or below will result in failure in all concurrent courses.
