    Description
    This course emphasizes intermediate skills, strategies, and tactics for river and flood rescues. It covers shore-based rescue methods, throw bag techniques, and rope rigging systems, and it provides insights into rescue watercraft specifically designed for emergency services and public safety personnel. Students will develop an awareness of the hazards involved in water rescue and the importance of alerting the appropriate resources to stabilize incidents. Key topics include dynamic hydrology; recognizing and isolating hazards to rescuers and victims; managing a water rescue incident; incident size-up and communication; working with air assets and watercraft; selecting and using PPE and rescue equipment; searching for and managing victims; constructing and using technical rope rescue systems and skills; dynamic swimming; performing non-entry rescues from the shore; and terminating an incident. This course is certified to industry standards and aligns with operations-level training based on NFPA 1006 (2021). A supplemental $81.00 fee will be charged including a $5.00 materials fee for student manual flash drive and a $76.00 State Fire Training FSTEP certification fee is due to Lassen Community College and will be collected at the time of registration.
