    Description
    This course introduces students to a wide range of American authors and their relationship to major literary and intellectual movements from the second half of the nineteenth century to the present. This course will include the emergence of realism and naturalism in the post-Civil War industrial era after 1865. Humorists, local color writers, the revival of poetry, nationalism, cosmopolitanism, and the fiction of the early twentieth century will be studied.
