    Description
This 24-hour Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course equips outdoor enthusiasts with essential skills to assess, treat, and manage injuries in remote settings where professional care is delayed. This course will also lead students on a variety of wilderness adventure excursions throughout the Lake Tahoe area. Hands-on scenarios will be used to cover patient assessment, trauma, environmental hazards, preventative medicine, evacuation strategies, and first aid care in a wilderness setting. Upon successful completion of the course requirements, the student will be eligible for a WFA certificate from LTCC and a CPR/AHD certificate from the American Heart Association (AHA). Students should be both physically and mentally prepared to spend multiple hours in the outdoors. Course activities may involve kayaking, climbing, and hiking. Students should be able to manage their own personal needs throughout the day and be able to hike unassisted over uneven terrain. Some, or all of the course hours may be TBA in order to achieve the stated student learning outcomes.
