Completion of Dental Assisting (DA) Educational Program b. 1,500 hours of documented work experience Transfers ToNot transferableDescriptionThis course was approved by the California Dental Board and will provide dental assistants with the proper educational requirements to perform Coronal Polish. Students will receive didactic instruction on the rationale, stains and deposits, methods, equipment and materials, and infection control, followed by a written exam. Upon successful completion of the written exam, students will begin laboratory practice (manikins), clinical (patients), and instruction to allow for the development of coronal polish skills. The laboratory and clinical activity will include the use of a hygiene slow speed handpiece, principles of coronal polish, armamentarium, operator and patient positioning, polishing technique, polishing agents, and polishing coronal surfaces of teeth. Clinical instruction will require students to provide three (3) patients on whom they will perform a coronal polishing procedure. Each patient will be scheduled for an appointment to ensure proficiency. Students must provide and arrive in uniform with lab coat, face shield, and closed-toe shoes.
