    Description
    This prerequisite course is necessary for prospective candidates to understand the content, rigors and physically-demanding nature of the Lake Tahoe Community College Fire Academy (FIR170L & FIR170M) courses). Students will learn simulated skills that explain and demonstrate requirements to become a certified Fire Fighter 1 through the California State Fire Marshal's office. Instruction includes fire organization and responsibility, serving culturally diverse communities, safety, use of self-contained breathing apparatus, fire service apparatus and equipment operation, hose and nozzles, ladders, ropes and knots, Incident Command System, and physical conditioning. You will be provided information on taking the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) with an outside provider ($170-$200). This is a physically-demanding course.
