    Description
This course analyzes the emergence and shifts in popular culture up until the current day--from local newspapers to social media conglomerates. Case studies of media companies such as the Walt Disney Company will be used to trace changes in popular culture, especially production, sales and synergy. The growth of 'new' media outlets on social media and tabloid journalism will also be covered. While there is a focus on media the course will cover other elements of pop culture, including movies, TV, games, toys, theme parks, sports, technology and politics. Attention is given to uncovering connections between popular culture and gender, race, and class.
