In addition, the course explores the Golden Age of Byzantium and its influences on the Latin West. The course investigates this epoch in history not as a "Dark Age" but rather as a major factor in the establishment and authority of Christianity throughout the world and today's organization of modern Europe. Works of art and architecture are discussed in light of their unique cultural and historical context.
