Beginning with the Neolithic peoples of Anatolia, the course examines the first great civilizations of Mesopotamia, the spread of the Bronze Age, and the increasing power of both Persian and Egyptian cultures. The investigation continues with the pre-classical and classical civilizations of the Aegean basin, and culminates with a survey of Roman expansion.
