Transfers ToUC and CSUCal-GETC Area 3A · IGETC Area 3A · CSU GE Area C1DescriptionThis course will entail a survey of music history and literature from 1750 to the present day, including cultural, intellectual and social influences of Western Europe and selected Global countries. Included in the analysis will be the influences on stylistic trends of music of Asia, Latin America, Northern and Eastern Europe, Oceania, Africa, the Middle East and the United States of America (Native American Music) on the development of Western European music during these epochs. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing how the various elements of music are utilized and transformed throughout various global cultures, the various musical instruments used, the timbres of the instruments and voices, the styles of cultural dances, the many varied scales which are used to build different types/styles of cultural music, and how these parameters are manifested in Western European music.
