Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course introduces the mathematics and science domains of the California Preschool and Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations. Topics include key mathematics areas such as number sense, algebraic thinking, measurement, geometry, and mathematical reasoning, as well as science areas including scientific inquiry, physical science, life science, earth and space sciences, and engineering, technology and application of science. The course provides practical strategies and hands-on experiences that support young children’s exploration of concepts such as quantity, shape, and size. Emphasis is placed on helping children develop skills in counting, sorting, ordering, collecting data, and spatial thinking through meaningful interactions with adults and their environment. Teachers will learn how to observe children’s learning, set developmentally appropriate goals, and plan and implement effective math and science curriculum in early childhood settings. This course is applicable toward required or professional development units for Child Development Permit holders and is designed for preschool, transitional kindergarten, and early primary teachers.Usually HeldFri 8:30am–12:45pm
