Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course introduces the topic of environmental and social sustainability in agriculture emphasizing a multi-disciplinary analysis of food and farming systems. Students will learn the history of agricultural development and the influence of agricultural technologies and land use practices on agro-ecosystem functioning, environmental quality, and human health. The course examines the ecology, environmental science, sociology and economics of agricultural systems. The course concludes with an assessment of the social, economic and political obstacles, opportunities and enabling environments for the widespread adoption of more environmentally sustainable and socially equitable food and farming systems.
