    This course surveys African history from prehistory to 1400, emphasizing the development of human societies, civilizations, and cultural interactions across the continent. The course will explore early human origins in Africa, the rise of agriculture, trade networks, and the political and cultural achievements of civilizations such as Egypt, Nubia, Ghana, Mali, and Songhai. Students will engage with African art, science, religion, and gender roles while investigating the influence of geographic, environmental, and social factors on Africa's history and its significance in global history.
