Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course provides an overview of art and architecture from the Renaissance to the contemporary period with a focus on art from Europe. The course will further consider global interactions involving this region. You'll embark on your own Grand Tour through the history of Western art! From the innovative frescoes of Giotto and Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel to the salons of 19th-century Paris, from the grandeur of Versailles to the daring brushstrokes of the Impressionists, this course explores the masterpieces of painting, sculpture, and architecture that have defined-and defied-the norms of their times. Along the way, you'll meet radical artists, witness revolutions in art and society, and discover how images shaped-and were shaped by-their cultural moment. Build your visual literacy and critical thinking skills as you journey through six centuries of artistic innovation. No passport required-just curiosity and an open mind! Formerly ART 141.
