This course covers subject matter, function, iconography, patronage, artistic methods and influences, and social and cultural contexts of artworks and monuments. This course includes art from the following topics: Colonial art before and after the American Revolution; painting, sculpture, and architecture as emblems for national identity and class; themes of race, freedom, and war in art; images of the working class and domestic culture; industrialization and its influence on modernism in art.
