The course emphasizes the formal elements of design as a fundamental means of expression and visual communication. A series of compositional exercises examines the theory and practice of visual, tactile, and conceptual methods of defining space. A variety of techniques are used to explore the elements of design through the application of design principles. The historical development of design is studied along with how artists and design professionals have influenced social, political, and cultural beliefs through the aesthetic form. Assignments in this course are non-technical and do not require prior knowledge of tools and equipment. Three-Dimensional Design is a comprehensive introductory course that could lead to future study in various art and design professions.
