This course provides an overview of social welfare and the societal institutions in the U.S. that structure the provision of social services and services. The course presents a historical perspective of U.S. social work and human services, with emphasis on the evolution of social welfare programs and institutions, major U.S. court and policy decisions, contemporary social problems, and modern service delivery systems. Further exploration of current policies, procedures, and the tasks of culturally responsive social workers and human service workers is also covered. Students will explore professional, ethical, and cultural issues facing the fields of social work and human services.
