This course examines psychological theory, research and impact of racism, oppression, prejudice, and discrimination. It explores the underpinnings of oppression, racialization, and racism as well as the psychological and sociocultural effects of lived experiences of the four core racialized groups: African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, and Latinx Americans. It investigates triggers of prejudice and the complex psychological patterns among majority and nonmajority groups. Students also learn about current movements of equity and resistance as they relate to the psychological impact experienced by communities of color.
