    Description
    This course is a survey of the social and musical characteristics of music in the Jazz era from the early 20th century to the present, with an emphasis on its impact on American culture and the world. The class traces the history and development of jazz, from its musical predecessors and beginnings to contemporary styles. Audio recordings and performances introduce the student to the techniques, styles, and performers of jazz.
