    Description
    Formerly History of Asian Art. This course is an introduction to the artistic and architectural traditions of India, Southeast Asia, China, Korea, and Japan from prehistory to the present. The historical development of art and architecture will be examined within its broader cultural and political contexts. The influence of religions and philosophies such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, Daoism, Islam, and Shinto on art and architecture will also be discussed. Students will study key examples of painting, sculpture, printmaking, architecture, and other art forms such as scrolls, calligraphy, textiles, ceramics, garden design, and decorative art.
