It critically engages with the discipline's origins, development, and future trajectory as an academic field committed to dismantling colonial/imperial ethnocentrism, Eurocentrism, and white supremacy within U.S. society. By integrating the socio-economic, cultural, and political conditions of key racialized and colonized communities, the course provides a foundational understanding of their histories of resistance, knowledge production, and contributions to transformative movements. Additionally, it investigates the intersections between social justice and racial equity movements, decolonization/decoloniality, and the establishment and evolution of Ethnic Studies as a site for liberation and epistemic disobedience. Course content engages students in the application of Ethnic Studies methodologies for understanding and critically analyzing struggles for equity, self-determination, liberation, decolonization, and anti-racism.
