    Description
    54 hours lecture per term. This course is a survey of the history of the Western Hemisphere from its discovery to the wars of independence. Emphasis is placed upon the European inheritance, the interaction of this inheritance with the native and African cultures and the planting of colonial societies in the new world. Spanish America, Brazil, Canada, and the United States are compared as to their socio-cultural, economic, and political development during the colonial and independence periods.
