This course is a survey of representative works by American writers since 1865, and it emphasizes literary trends in and historic backgrounds of American drama, fiction, poetry, and prose. The course includes a consideration of Realism, Regionalism, Naturalism, Modernism, and Postmodernism through the study and critical discussion of representative writers central to the development of American literature.
