    Description
    54 hours lecture per term. This Honors-enhanced course is a survey of representative works by American writers from before the era of colonization through the Civil War, emphasizing historical backgrounds of American fiction, poetry, and prose. This course includes major writers such as Hawthorne, Poe, Melville, Emerson, Douglass, Thoreau, Dickinson, and Whitman.
