This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of American Sign Language and Deaf culture. It includes development of appropriate linguistic/cultural behaviors and awareness of and respect for Deaf culture. Topics will include a focus on the historical, artistic, and cultural influence of the Deaf community in mainstream society. This course is comparable to two years of high school ASL. Required attendance at a Deaf cultural event outside of class time. Letter Grade or Pass/No Pass option.
