Fossil evidence for the origin and evolution of life, natural selection, and environmental change in shaping both ancient and modern living communities are also presented. Emphasis will be given to North American paleogeography and tectonics. Laboratory activities use rocks, fossils, geologic maps and cross sections to interpret ancient environments, tectonic settings and geologic history.
