Transfers ToNot transferableDescriptionThis course provides students with a foundational background in Chicano/a/x-Latino/a/x Studies and Ethnic Studies regarding theories of the construction of Race and Ethnicity in the United States, and the epistemologies derived from scholars in Latino/a/x/Chicanx Studies. This course helps students understand the historical inequalities reproduced within the education system and schools, the knowledge produced by these communities, and the strategies used for resistance and liberation. Likewise, students who complete the course will have a better understanding of the role that intersectionality, identity, and collective struggle play in educational institutions in the United States. Units and lessons taught in this class will prepare students to utilize the concepts and methods of Chicano-Latino Studies in teaching and pedagogical practice across the pre-kindergarten through post-secondary education system, non-profit sector, and educational policy arenas. This course prepares future educators to better serve and advocate for historically marginalized communities of color. (A, CSU)
