The topics in this course include the history of astronomy; the Sun and its role within the solar system; the origins and characteristics of planets, satellites, ring systems, dwarf planets, comets, asteroids, and other interplanetary debris; and Kepler's laws of planetary motion. The discussion of current interplanetary missions and exoplanetary systems around other stars will also be included. There may be optional field trips. (A, CSU, UC, Cal-GETC)
