Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course provides a chronological in-depth examination of how the systems and social institutions of the United States of America have influenced and impacted the lives of African Americans and their communities from the Colonial Era through the first decade of the 21st Century. This course will examine and analyze cultural norms and value systems retained from traditional African societies that were adapted for survival in the United States; evaluate and analyze the impact of the Great Migration from 1865 through 1975, compare and contrast the social political and economic bases of the Reform Movement, Civil Rights Movement, and Pan African Liberation Movement, and evaluate and interpret how the underlying economic, political, and ethnocentric issues of racism in the United States have impacted African American communities and social institutions from Reconstruction to the election of President Barack Obama.
