Students will write 2-3 short essays (totaling 2000 words) in which they discuss various aspects of grammar instruction. The class includes the study and practice of traditional and modern grammars, with emphasis on the relationship of grammar to sentence structure. Students will have the opportunity to study the history of the English language, instructional methodologies, and selected issues of language acquisition among the culturally diverse population in California schools. This class meets the CSU, Sacramento, requirement for Liberal Studies majors and is on the list of recommended courses for English majors.
