    Description
    This course will introduce basic steps, styles, instruments, and rhythms associated with various forms of Belly Dancing. Lecture will encompass the historical and cultural placement of at least three styles from inception to contemporary applications. Lab work will include warm up exercises, movement combinations, and dance choreography appropriate to a variety of North African, Near East, and Middle Eastern styles and techniques. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to critically discuss the social, cultural, and historical context of Belly Dance as well as perform basic steps in a choreographed routine. Students will be responsible for obtaining appropriate dance attire for rehearsal and performance. A field trip or fieldwork may be required and could incur a fee.
