    This is the first in a series of three sequential medical-surgical nursing theory courses. Each course will increase in complexity. This first course provides a head-to-toe survey of fundamental disorders of body systems and includes anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, etiology, signs and symptoms, lab values, diagnostics, treatments, and medications. Information on basic principles of gerontology and communicable disease will be presented, with a continuing focus on patient education. Emphasis will also be placed on utilizing the nursing process and clinical judgment model.
