Transfers ToNot transferableDescriptionIn this course, students will apply landscape-scale, whole watershed-level thinking to understand complex restoration and management topics in riparian systems. Fluvial, geomorphic, and ecological concepts in river, stream, riparian, wetland, and meadow ecosystems, with a special focus on the Sierra Nevada, will be explored. Theories relating to restoration and management will be reviewed, including how to effectively monitor projects for long-term performance. This course will include hands-on experience observing and analyzing newly restored systems as well as visiting mature restoration projects. Tensions within the community of restoration ecologists and differing philosophies regarding restoration will be explored.Usually HeldTue 12:00pm–12:50pm, Tue 2:00pm–4:50pm
