- This is a survey course of the United States from World War I to the present. The course will focus on the political, economic, social, and cultural developments in America since the first World War. It will emphasize the shifting role of the Federal Government, the Cold War, America's emerging role as a superpower, the emergence of civil rights, global capitalism, mass culture, and the evolving political contest between liberalism and conservatism.
