    Description
    This course is typically a requirement for students majoring in mechanical engineering or materials engineering, and sometimes for civil engineering or industrial engineering majors. The course delves into the internal structures and resulting behaviors of materials commonly employed in engineering applications, encompassing metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, and semiconductors. A primary focus of the course is to equip students with the skills needed to select suitable materials that align with engineering design criteria. Additionally, it provides a comprehensive understanding of how factors such as heat, stress, imperfections, and chemical environments can impact material properties and overall performance in practical engineering scenarios.
