Important social and historical issues will be covered, including segregation, The Depression, The Great Migration, World War II, and The Civil Rights Movement. Students will learn core musical concepts, engage in directed listening activities, attend live concerts, and discuss the various theoretical, aesthetic, and philosophical ideas that inspire the creation of jazz music.
