    Description
The study of organic chemistry continues with the nomenclature, properties, preparation, reactions and derivatives of carboxylic acids, amines, aldehydes and ketones. Principles of biochemistry are introduced. Descriptions of the structures and biochemical reactions of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes and nucleic acids will be analyzed. Catabolic/anabolic pathways as well as the energy consumed or produced by the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins will be examined. The chemistry of photosynthesis will be studied. Note: Students will not receive UC credit for Chemistry 21B if taken after CHEM 7B .
