Principles of biochemistry are introduced. Descriptions of the structures and biochemical reactions of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes and nucleic acids will be analyzed. Catabolic/anabolic pathways as well as the energy consumed or produced by the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins will be examined. The chemistry of photosynthesis will be studied. Note: Students will not receive UC credit for Chemistry 21B if taken after CHEM 7B .
