Major insect orders and families are introduced through lecture with slides and live and preserved specimens. Emphasis is placed on learning how to identify insect specimens in the laboratory and to recognize them in the field. Field trips to local sites, local desert and coastal mountain habitats will be taken to practice collection, preparation, and recognition techniques.
