Description: This course is an introduction to statistical thinking and processes, including methods and concepts for discovery and decision-making using data. Topics include descrip- tive statistics; probability and sampling distributions; sta- tistical inference; correlation and linear regression; anal- ysis of variance, chi-squared, and t-tests; and application of technology for statistical analysis including the inter- pretation of the relevance of the statistical findings. Stu- dents apply methods and processes to applications using data from a broad range of disciplines. This course has embedded support. Media Arts and Technologies Department Media Arts and Technologies Department E7 - B41 � (323) 265-8810 Our Department teaches storytelling, aesthetics, visual communications, and design, as well as technical and professional skills across a variety of formats, both tradi- tional and cutting-edge technologies. We teach anima- tion, broadcasting, digital film production, media arts, photography, and general education classes in media history and appreciation. Our Animation discipline focuses on the creation of worlds and characters using both traditional 2D and 3D tech- niques. The goal is to bring these worlds and characters to life through the use of movement and performance. In addition, we provide wide-ranging skills in other areas of entertainment technology, such as games, visual effects, VR, and other real-time applications. We are launching an Apprenticeship preparation program so students can continue prac ticing and expanding their skills through these courses in a real client-based production setting. Our Broadcasting discipline provides a hands-on experi- ence creating shows, podcasts, and news reports in studio and on location. Your classroom will be a working studio where you will learn to produce content utilizing state- of-the-art equipment and techniques. We are launch- ing our school's streaming television and radio stations where student's work will be broadcast to our campus community. The Media Arts discipline covers a variety of new media, including streaming and cell phones, but it is focused on digital film production, including planning, casting, filming, and editing. Students learn to develop ideas into scripts that will be produced into short films and videos. Courses include instruction on story development, cinematog- raphy, lighting, editing, and color grading.These classes give our students the skills and portfolio to succeed in the entertainment industry. Our Photography discipline provides education in both digital and traditional photography, as well as, studio and laboratory processes. A wide variety of immersive courses include instruction in lighting, digital capture, Photoshop, custom printing, portraiture, product photography, mar- keting, concept, and portfolio development. These classes give our students the knowledge necessary to succeed in challenging and exciting fields such as family and event photography and commercial and fashion photography. We welcome all skill levels, whether you are just start- ing, want to learn a new hobby, or are a seasoned pro- fessional looking to up your game. All of our faculty are knowledgeable industry professionals who love to teach and support students in their education journey.Com- pleting our programs can pave the way to success, pre- pare you for career advancement, or assist in making a career transition. Our facility has over 12 separate teach- ing labs, including motion capture, advanced editing sta- tions, 3D printing, black and white and color darkrooms, a film processing lab, photography and broadcast studios, computer labs, animation labs, and a variety of profes- sional equipment to borrow. Previous training in photography is not required. Comprehensive studies include commercial and industrial projects, laboratory processes, portraiture and color tech- niques classes.Creative and advanced photographic skill classes are offered.
