Note: This course is eligible to be offered in any DE modality. E.S.L. 110 is an advanced composition and reading course, equivalent to ENGL C1000 (formerly ENGLISH 101), for stu- dents who are English language learners. This four-unit course focuses on critical reading, academic writing, including a research paper, with an emphasis on gram- mar and academic vocabulary and other issues specific to English language learners. Materials include a variety of texts reflecting current academic issues, such as lan- guage, ethnicity, class, gender, psychology, and cultural studies. The course requires a minimum of 6,000 words of writing. The course is intended for ESL students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university.
