    Description
This course provides a survey of Western political philosophy from the ancient to the modern, providing interventions and critiques of them. We will cover prominent theories and concepts in the historical tradition of political thought as well as considering the periodization of political problems. In addition, we will also analyze theories and their potential application to modern political issues. We will examine foundational concepts as justice, freedom, democracy, inequality, and racism and explore their historical and contemporary significance while introducing decolonial, and abolitionist thought and the philosophy of race. Students will explore theoretical approaches used to explain, instruct, and justify the distribution of political power in societies. Formerly POLSC-240 (25-26).
