    Description
    This course provides an introduction to United States and California governments from the history and experiences of African Americans. Students will analyze the U.S. and California Constitutions as well the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of governance. Focusing on African-American and Black political participation, Civil Rights, and social justice movements, this course will highlight the influence of Black Americans upon United States institutions at the local, state and federal levels. Public policy issues including mass incarceration, education, political economy, healthcare, and the legacy of slavery will also be examined. Formerly POLSC-123 (25-26).
