    Description
Introduction to African American Studies employs an anti-racist approach to critically examining historical, political, social, and cultural issues like race, racism and racialization, ethnicity, anti-blackness, white supremacy, and Black liberation among others. Focus is placed on the application of theory and knowledge produced by African Americans in order to understand epistemologies, historically informed lived experiences, and cultural contributions of African Americans, particularly as related to systemic oppression, identity formation, and Black agency. The course highlights the historical and intersectional African American quest for justice within the context of anti-racist, abolitionist, and anti-colonial social movements.
